A minute of silence was held for the victims of the attack in Christchurch, New Zealand.

The Daily Mail estimates about 350 soldiers marched on the Parade Square.

Leading the procession was Irish wolfhound and mascot Domhnall, whom Kate presented shamrocks to.

The Duchess was also in charge of presenting sprigs of shamrocks to Officers and Warrant Officers.

The parade then concluded with a march-past where Prince William took the salute.

Kate asked Irwin-Clark what their secret was to keeping the newborn baby so sound asleep.

"Drop of whiskey in the milk," Irwin-Clark responded before adding, "no it's a joke."

"Oh well enjoy, it just gets better and better." Kate responded.

The royal family have attended the St Patrick's Day parade every year since 1901 when Queen Alexandra led the way.

After Queen Alexandra's death, the role of attending the parade and presenting the shamrocks was notably left empty until 1964 when the Queen Mum took on the role. After her death, the presentation was made by the Princess Royal until 2012 when the Cambridges most notably started to attend.

To begin the Royal Fab Four's day, the Duchess joined Her Majesty for the official opening of Bush House at King College - the latest education and learning facilities on the university's Strand Campus.

This isn't the Duchesses first time going solo with the Queen.

In 2011 she and her Majesty viewed the Royal Wedding exhibition at Buckingham Palace.

In 2012, Kate joined the Queen for an 'away day' in Leicester.

The Queen and the Duchess visited the trading floor, where they met students from the Entrepreneurship institute - which supports entrepreneurial thinking, skills and experiences amongst King's students, staff and alumni.

People reported: "They also viewed a robotics demonstration, including robotic surge, and one showing how sensors made from textiles can measure useful information about the body.
"As she shook the robotic hand, Kate giggled and said: "Very nice to meet you!" When it gripped her hand back, she laughed and said: "So Strange."
"The Queen looked slightly alarmed when the hand came near her and decided not to grace it with a regal shake."

They then headed to the eighth floor where they saw one of the roof terraces where you can see views of the city.

The Duchess and Her Majesty met builders and architects who helped convert Bush House from the BBC's World Service headquarters.

At the museum, Kate visited 'Bedrooms of London', a photography exhibition that explores the living conditions of London's most disadvantage children.

A message from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge following the attack: "Our hearts go out to the families and friends of the people who lost their lives in the devastating attack in Christchurch. We have all been fortunate to spend time in Christchurch and have felt the warm, open-hearted and generous spirit that is core to its remarkable people. No person should ever have to fear attending a sacred place to worship. This senseless attack is an affront to the people of Christchurch and New Zealand, and the broader Muslim community. It is a horrifying assault on a way of life that embodies decency, community, and friendship. We know that from this devastation and deep mourning, the people of New Zealand will unite to show that such evil can never defeat compassion and tolerance. We send our thoughts and prayers to everyone in New Zealand today. Kia Kaha."
